Decolonizing the mind

Despite years of supposedly being emancipated, a lot more needs to be done to decolonize the minds of many Africans.  The continent was at first lost at the cost of mirrors, shiny coins and booze.  Today years after so many died for Africa’s emancipation the pillaging has begun again.  What will the price be, now that our leaders have decided to sell off the Continent after such a heavy price was paid to regain it?

Why should food aid still be a reality on a continent where agriculture accounts for 70% of the labour force and 25% of  GDP  in most African countries?

Why should large tracts of land be sold to China for it to grow food for its people while some African countries wait for relief aid to be dropped on their famine struck population?

I cringe every time there is a summit or some extravagant event on the Continent, because if there is anything the leadership of this continent loves is pomp and ceremony.  If the effort put into holding an opening ceremony for yet another talk shop were put into actual action it would be one thing.  But some how there is pride in holding out a begging ball.

This state of mind is equally dangerous for ordinary citizens who see themselves as unworthy.  Who at any given time are willing to set up tours, business, children’s homes that cater for guilt ridden Westerners.  Why should it be en vogue for pictures of starving African children to be a tourist draw card?  That people should travel thousands of miles to Africa to save starving children on a continent that has adults and vast agricultural land is completely unacceptable……..

Do I seem angry?  No I really am not angry, I am livid at the fact that so many lives were lost to wrest this continent from the clutches of colonialism on to have it sold off again…If folklore were really true that the dead cannot rest when things are amiss, this land would be drenched in blood and vaporized ….

You raise very sad truths. Looking at SA I realise as the electorate we are complicit in our own suffering. We pick sides even though both are thieves, we are too accepting of disrespect from political leaders, we have no respect for ourselves and therefore demand and indeed command none. It’s our own fault, it’s disheartening.
